Enough Already!

This past week, all of our snow and ice from the big shut-in melted. Right when we were getting ready for Spring, we got hit by another Winter storm. On Friday afternoon, a storm rolled through and laid down a blanket of ice and snow.

Andy and I were wiser and luckier this time around. We salted early, shoveled the front drive after a few inches fell and the icy mix only lasted four or five hours.

We cleared the drive again on Saturday morning and found our preparation really helped. Our drive was much easier to clear than our some of our neighbors.

This picture shows icicles forming on one of our lamps - caused by snow melting from the roof. These icicles are about a foot and a half from the bottom of the lamp to the tip of the icicle.

Although we're getting good with the snow we are ready for Spring!

Champagne Thursday

Andy started a new tradition at our house tonight - welcome to Champagne Thursday!

It's as simple as it sounds - we're making Thursday's a celebration with a special little treat, a toast of champagne.

We've been trying our hand at some new cooking skills over the past month.

Here are some of the things Andy has been working on perfecting:

- Crispy Aromatic Duck (Andy's is just like ones you find in the UK!)
- Pad Thai (entirely from scratch!)
- Scallop Potatoes (yummy)
- Vegetable Lasagna (just for Holly)

Holly's found a few new items to whip up including:

- Penang (not quite from scratch, but close)
- Sushi Rolls (Andy actually requests these now!)

We are both enjoying the kitchen and all of our gadgets. We also enjoy hunting down the exact ingredients and perfecting our techniques - of course eating is the best part!

Snowed In...

We've had an eventful week in New Freedom! Starting on Tuesday, the area was hit by a snow storm which quickly turned into an ice and snow storm. We expected 2 - 4 inches of snow, but ended up with 8 - 10 inches of ice.

So for most areas - the storm shut things down for a day and a half. Well, our neighborhood hasn't been final paved, so we aren't on city plowing services yet. Our neighbor Mike hooked us up with an independent plow truck operator - so we were able to escape from the house on Friday.

Here's a picture of me standing on top of the foot of ice on our front walk. The snow is so hard that you don't sink or break the surface. In fact, the truck that plowed our drive drove over the snow on our drive and barely left an indent!

On Friday, we were back in the office - freed from the house!
